Brecken Vale Gazetteer

I'm working on something new for Hero Kids, and it's taking a while!

It started as a simple idea to produce a official map of Rivenshore.  But since then, it's expanded to a gazetteer of all of the Brecken Vale.

The gazetteer will feature an overview of the regions of the Brecken Vale, a rundown of the key locations in Rivenshore, as well as details about notable characters from across the vale.  Additionally, the gazetteer will be packed with gameable adventure hooks to inspire your Hero Kids game.

Here's my original layout of Rivenshore:

From my layout, Eric Quigley illustrated the village:

Which has become this thing of beauty!

Speaking of Eric, he's also illustrated a whole bunch of notable characters, both friendly and villainous, from across the vale:

Ratch
Sheriff Walt
Jarl
Lizardkin Shaman S'Lis
Mortain and Crow
Old Madge
Tark

Keep an eye out for the Brecken Vale Gazetteer in the not-too-distant future.

  1. Hi Justin,
I am not sure how else to contact you. Would it be possible to get A4 versions of your books. I have bought a few, but in South Africa it is impossible to get letter size paper.

    1. Hey Charles, I'm from an A4 country as well, so I just print out the materials at their normal size. You shouldn't lose any text or parts of the maps. If you do find this doesn't work, most print dialogs have an option to 'Shrink to Fit' so that the width of the Letter paper is reduced to fit on an A4 printed page.

  3. High Justin! Just wondering if the tower next to the Apothacary is a watchtower, or the bell tower from 'Fire in Rivenshore'? Thanks!

    1. That's one of the four watchtowers. They have alarm bells in them, as well as in the Great Hall.

  4. Hi! Just found Hero Kids and played my first adventure with my six year old, our three year old (who was too young and mostly just colored paper), and my wife/the mom last night. I can't thank you enough for this wonderful game. My six year old absolutely loved it and I discovered a love from my past. It is probably the first time in two years my six year old wasn't begging for a video game or movie and all of that energy was diverted into this creative adventure (that pushed his vocabulary as well.) We are already planning our next adventure and inviting friends. We might just survive this winter after all. LOL. Fantastic work! Thank you again!

  5. So I recently found your work and have been loving it so much! Ironically I’d started compiling notes across adventures to have my notes for a sandbox of the Vale and NPCs. I’m even more excited that you’re working official source! I look forward to seeing updates and the final product!

  6. Hi Justin,

I just started playing the other day with my son. He loves it. Having this compendium is fantastic.
Would LOVE to get the Gazzateer (would not mind to sub for a low price per month or so either).
Also - thank you so much for the map + explanation map - this helps my soon-to-be five year old a lot!

    Thanks,
    a new fan!

  8. I discovered Hero Kids a year ago when laid off of work. Since then I have bought every piece of Hero Kids, and Creators Guild content I've found so far. We have a 40 adventure campaign planned that will take us through each adventure, some twice with tweaks as well as some freeplay sessions and all will be customized to tell a story of the kids past and search for their families. We printed the B/W map from the core book on 4 pages then coloured it with pencil crayon and added roads, a new village, names for each feature or town/road/river/etc
To have a Gazetteer would help so much in developing our backstories and the content for the massive campaign!!
Sending Good Vibes your way Justin! Hope to see it soon :)
This game has changed our lives for better and I just can't get enough!

    1. Not yet! I'm sorry. It got delayed because of art resources, and since then I've been caught up with the update of the Hero Kids core rules in color, and my work on Onyx Sky.
